Summer 2010

So many new things going on at the Center these days!

Just a quick overview: Blended Frozen Mocha, Information and Visitor's Center, Chamber of Commerce, price changes, hours changes, iPod mix update, BURLAP, furniture layout, computers moved, website design, a new umbrella for our table, Surry Side, reNEW, and more!

New Drinks!
We JUST added 2 new drinks to the menu: Frozen Mocha and Frozen Caramel Latte! We're so excited about these new drinks that we featured a special deal on our website (good until June 11). Both are available while supplies last, and since they are so delicious, that isn't long! So come try a new Frozen beverage at the Center for only $3.50.

Information and Visitor's Center
We have been working on opening a section of the Center for an Information and Visitor's Center, and finally have it open to the public! Mr. Cliff Wiedel painted an amazing sign for hanging outside, and several pieces of furniture were donated to hold brochures and other informational papers. If you want some info on Surry, this is definitely the place to get it. We also have some custom maps of the town.

Surry Side
The Surry County Chamber of Commerce teamed with a publishing agency (Chamber Pubs, a division of The Addison Group) to create The Surry Side - an informative, community-focused magazine featuring articles and ads from Surry County. Stop by the Center and grab a copy to share with friends and neighbors.

Chamber of Commerce
The Chamber of Commerce is now located in the Center! This is a great step into integrating the business activity with the community in Surry. Previously, the Chamber didn't have a permanent location.

Cosmetics
Several elements of the Center have been rearanged or replaced with summer-friendly design. We got a new umbrella for our outsoor table, moved the couches around, shifted the computers out of the window, and added burlap sacks to the windows (for sun block and add awesome coffee ambience). Also up is some new music on the iPod.

Price Changes and New Products
Effective June 1st, some prices have been changed due to cost of production. To see the latet prices, please visit the Center in person. But if you want to check out prices before coming in, the menu has the prices and items available listed.
Some items changed were: Chai (increased), Iced Tea (increased), Some food items, and Italian Cream Soda (increased).
Products added: Frozen Mocha, Frozen Caramel Latte, and Caramel Explosion.

Welcome 2010

We have some great new things planned for 2010, so here's a little peek at our line-up so far

Chai Tasting Event
Tuesday, Jan 12 at 5pm, we are having a chai tasting event at the Center. We'll be featuring our newest Seasonal Specials, the Berry Chai and Caramel Macchiato Chai, as well as learning some about the spiced black tea from India!

Saturday Movie Nights
Every Saturday night in January, we'll be showing a different movie. Big screen, warm room, and lots of locals. These are absolutely free, and also have free popcorn.

Free Wi-Fi Password
Lately we've had some abuse to our free Wi-Fi. In response to this abuse, we've enacted a new policy for obtaining the network access key code. Guests are asked to provide a name and e-mail address, and sign an agreement to our internet usage policies, and the password will be changed daily after closing time. Our internet usage is still free, and we still provide free computer use.

reNEW
ReNEW is still being held every Sunday nights at 6pm, right here at the Center. This year we have some great plans to start with:

::Jan 10 - Feb 14 - RAW Spirituality: The Forgotten, Unrefined Gospel. A deep look at what it really means to follow Jesus and tell others about Him.

::Jan 22 - Visit Day. On this Friday night we take ReNew on the road. We will visit and share a little bit with some folks who need a visit. Bring instruments. Meet at the Center at 5:30pm

::Feb 7 - Super Bowl XLIV. Festivities begin at 5:30. We'll have several big TV's with the big game. Bring food and drinks to share (please no alcohol)

::Feb 21 - Diversity in the Kingdom of God. This will be an exciting gathering of folks from a variety of Christian backgrounds. We will celebrate the diversity and unity of the Kingdom of God.

::Feb - Book Dicussion: Crazy Love. It's an unbelievably challenging book. Order the books through us for $8. Groups will start some time in February.

reNEW: Diversity - Action Day

Sunday, December 13th, reNEW will be at New Harvest church in Surry. Please join us there at 6pm.

Winter

Thanksgiving Dinner
As we end the fall season, we will be celebrating Thanksgiving at the Center with a community dinner! Be sure to stop by on Nov 29 at 4pm. We ask everyone please bring a side dish or dessert to share (we expect to feed close to 100).

Christmas Play
The first ever community Christmas play will be taking place this year! Dates are the 19th of December, 6pm at New Harvest church in Surry, and the 20th of December, 5pm at Bacons Castle church in Surry. We will be performing "A Christmas Carol" - the classic play that follows the life-changing experience of Ebenezer Scrooge from a grumpy, old miser to a kind, generous man. All of the actors and actresses are local Surry citizens, so be sure to come support their hard work!

New Winter Specials
Following with our seasonally-themed drink specials, we will be featuring an expansive line of wintertime beverages, perfect for this cold season. Some of the ideas tossed around include Hot Chocolates, Mochas, and flavored Chai Tea Lattes. Also in the mix will be wonderful decorations! We believe it to be a waste of time to set up decorations for only a short time, so quickly following our Thanksgiving meal, our Winter Wonderland will be composed! Join us on Sunday nights at 6pm for reNEW: A Missional Community. Our purpose at ReNew is to enable regular people to meet God and be a part of His plan. We do this by praying together, learning together, discussing ideas, and serving our community.

We are missional because we identify ourselves with God’s mission in the world. God’s purpose is to rescue, redeem, and restore people to Himself, establishing His Kingdom in the world.

Through Jesus sacrifice we are offered a place in God’s mission. We choose to accept God’s call to us and partner with Him in His rescuing, redeeming, and restoring purposes

Being missional requires us to always focus outward more than we focus inward.

Being a community means that we are a group of unified heart and purpose. It means that we value togetherness above individuality. We value relationships above organization and structure. We know that God designed every one of us to live and grow in community, not alone.

We see that people around us have a great need for relationships and community. We recognize that a healthy community is a diverse one. We want to bring together people of different ages, backgrounds, and experiences. -reNEW Homepage
